Kano anti-corruption agency files fresh charges against Ganduje

The Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission has announced new corruption charges it will be filing against a former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje.
While speaking on Channels TV on Tuesday, April 16, the Commission’s chairman, Muhuyi Magaji, said investigations uncovered the diversion of N51.3 billion from local government funds to unauthorized individuals during Ganduje’s tenure.
Magaji alleged that the Ganduje administration withdrew N1 billion monthly from state coffers before its tenure ended in May 2023, purportedly for road renovation, but diverted to Bureau de Change operators instead.
He also cited a case involving N4 billion transferred to an agricultural company from Kano’s consolidated revenue account.
“What is happening now is the tip of the iceberg. As I am talking to you, we are investigating a case whereby N51.3bn local government funds were directly taken from the government coffers (and) sent to other individuals, and we traced it to people.
We have filed a series of cases. We have a case whereby N1bn in April last year (2023) was removed from government coffers under the allocation of renovating 30 roads in the metropolis, and it was taken away and sent to Bureau de Change.
We have a case of N4bn whereby it was sent from the consolidated revenue account of Kano State to an agricultural company. All these cases are before the court,” he said.
The state government has said it will arraign Ganduje, alongside his wife and son, for money laundering, later this week.

Oborevwori is APC candidate in Delta – Joel-Onowakpo

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State has declared that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is the APC candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state.
The LG party leaders also passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Tinubu, Oborevwori and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, for providing purposeful and visionary leadership.
The Isoko South APC leaders spoke at meeting following the mass defection of former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in the local government area.
The meeting, hosted at the country home of Joel-Onowakpo, had in attendance leaders from the eleven wards of the local government area.
Joel-Onowakpo, alongside other key leaders emphasized the need for unity of purpose to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
The senator unequivocally stated that the leader of the APC in Delta state is Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
He explained that the alignment follows directives from the Presidency and the national leadership of the party.
“The Delta State governorship is not vacant. We have an administration that is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy, and we must give them the needed support to complete their mandate,” he said.
Joel-Onowakpo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content, stressed that there is no distinction between old and new members in the party, adding that everyone is APC.
He advised against any actions that might cause division within party ranks, just as he charged all party organs within the local government, especially ward chairmen, to ensure a seamless registration process for new members, warning against any practices that might undermine party unity.
The highlight of the meeting was the formal motion for a vote of confidence – moved by the member representing Isoko South Constituency II, Ferguson Onwo and seconded by Dr Sylvester Onoyona, APC candidate for House of Representatives, Isoko North and South Constituency in the 2023 general elections – in support of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas.

Anambra: INEC publishes particulars of 16 governorship candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday published particulars of 16 candidates nominated for the Nov. 8 Anambra governorship election.
The commission disclosed this in a statement by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee in Abuja.
Olumekun said that this followed the conclusion of party primaries by 16 political parties and uploading of their candidates’ nomination forms by 6 pm on May 12 when the dedicated portal automatically shut down.
“As provided in Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and listed as item 4 on the timetable and schedule of activities for the election, INEC has published the personal particulars of each candidate and their running mate at its state headquarters and the 21 Local Government offices across Anambra,” he stated.
Olumekun said that the publication was done by displaying copies of the form EC9, along with all the accompanying academic credentials and other documents submitted by the candidates.
“We appeal to Nigerians to scrutinise the documents.
“Any aspirant who participated in his/her party’s primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by a candidate is false can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court as provided in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022,” he said.
Olumekun disclosed that the final list of candidates would be published on June 9 which is at least 150 days before the day of the election.
This according to him is in line with the provision of Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and listed as item 7 on the timetable and schedule of activities for the election.

We are ready to take over power in 2027 – SDP

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Thursday declared its readiness to take over power in Nigeria in 2027.
Abubakar Dogara, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North-Central Zone, made the statement during the SDP North-Central Zonal.
Dogara described the SDP as “the new bride of Nigeria,” claiming that the party’s membership is growing rapidly across the country.
“We are holding meetings at the zonal, national, ward, state, and local government levels.
“It’s all part of our preparations. Our membership cards are consistently exhausted at the state level,” he said.
He added that the party was building strong grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“So, we are preparing to take over the leadership of the country come 2027, by the grace of God. I believe SDP is now the bride of the nation,” Dogara said.
He urged Nigerians to join the party at their respective wards and support its candidates to transform the country’s political narrative.
Also speaking at the meeting, Idoko Idoto, the Benue State Chairman of the SDP, expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the next elections.
“Come 2027, I assure you, SDP is coming with full force. SDP will take over Benue State and Nigeria.
“We’ll win all the senatorial seats, House of Representatives, and the State Assembly will not be left out,” he said.
Idoto also recalled that the party had once governed Benue State, affirming that it had a solid foundation to build upon for future success.
