Kano Governor Pledges Unity Among Political Leaders, Warns Against ‘Do-or-Die’ Politics
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to foster unity among political leaders in the state while warning against what he described as a do-or-die approach to politics.
The governor made the remarks during the second special prayer session and Qur’anic recitation held at the Government House, Kano, which brought together 4,444 reciters on Saturday.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Tofa, Yusuf noted that the recent collective devotion to Almighty God for unity, peace, and prosperity in the state was already yielding positive outcomes.
The governor cited the attendance of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, at state programmes as evidence of the growing harmony among political actors in Kano.
Yusuf also expressed optimism that the lingering Kano Emirate tussle would be resolved peacefully. He expressed confidence that, following the fervent prayers offered by the reciters, the matter would soon be resolved amicably in a way that would satisfy all parties involved.
Reaffirming his commitment to political reconciliation, the governor pledged to unite politicians across divides and urged them to shun bitterness.
“He pledged to do everything within his power to unite Kano politicians, urging them to avoid do-or-die politics and instead embrace mutual respect and understanding,” the statement read.
Governor Yusuf further reiterated his administration’s stance against thuggery, describing youths engaged in such acts as “sons of the soil” who should be contributing meaningfully to the state’s development.
He assured residents that his government would continue to implement projects with direct impact on their lives and commended the Qur’anic reciters for their prayers for the peace and stability of Kano.
In his remarks, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, praised the governor’s initiative, urging other states across the country to emulate Kano by organizing similar prayer sessions to promote lasting peace and national cohesion.
The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, also called on residents to remain steadfast in prayers for the continued progress of Kano State and the nation at large.
