Kano Police Nab Umaru, 62 For Offering N1m Bribe To Secure Release Of Kidnapper

The Kano State Police Command has said it has arrested one Bamuwa Umaru, 62, for offering N1 million as bribe to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper.

SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, the Command Spokesman confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.

“On Dec. 16, 2022 at about 2:00p.m, Bamuwa Umaru, resident of Shika town Kaduna State, approached the Officer in charge of Anti-Kidnapping Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department, Kano Command, SP Aliyu Mohammed.

“The suspect offered the sum of N1 million as bribe to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper, Yusuf Ibrahim, 27, of Danjibga village, Zamfara State,” he said.

Haruna-Kiyawa said that the suspected kidnapper was arrested by a team of Operation Restore Peace led by CSP Usman Abdullahi, DPO Rijiyar Zaki Division, Kano.

“Yusuf Ibrahim was identified by a driver they kidnapped along Funtua-Gusau Road, and collected the sum of N500,000 as ransom before his release.

“On preliminary investigations, Ibrahim confessed to the crime and further confessed to have participated in a series of kidnapping at Sheme, Yankara, Faskari and Kucheri villages in Katsina and Zamfara States, respectively.

“Ibrahim also confessed that their syndicate killed about 10 of their kidnapped victims, and he alone killed two of the victims.

“The suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” he said.

Mamman Dauda,  Commissioner of Police in the state, commended the people of the state, security agencies, media, vigilance groups, the command’s community policing team and other stakeholders for their prayers, support, encouragement and cooperation.

He assured residents of adequate security, warning those planning to disrupt the peace to stay away, as “Kano state remains a no go area for evil planners.”

Idris, 21 Arraigned For Stealing Phone Accessories In Lagos Market

21 year old Idris Aderemi, accused of stealing phone accessories worth N1.78 million, appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Friday.

On two counts of conspiracy and theft, the defendant—whose address was withheld—is being tried before Magistrate L J.K. Layeni.

He, however, entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

The defendant committed the offenses on April 16, 2022, at the Fancy and Furniture Plaza, which is located in the Alaba International Market in Ojo, according to the prosecutor, Dr. Simon Uche

According to Uche, the defendant planned to take the phone accessories from Cap Link Communication Ltd. in the plaza with the help of a fugitive.

The accused offenses violate Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

Layeni set the defendant’s bail at N300,000 with two equal-sized sureties.

He set the trial date for February 15th.

Bandits Storm Kaduna Community, Kill 5 Miners

Five miners were killed after bandits stormed a mining site in Hayin Udawa community, Chikun local government area of Kaduna killing.

The bandits stormed the site on Thursday afternoon where the victims were working.

According to a source, “Five of our local miners were killed on Wednesday while working in the bush. They were all from Udawa town.”

He added that others sustained gunshot injuries.

He stated that where the attack took place was not far from where bandits ambushed the personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), killing seven, as well as six miners a few weeks ago.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Jalige could not respond to calls put to him.

Son Of Nasarawa Governor Is Dead

Abdullahi A. Sule, governor of Nasarawa State has lost his son, Alhaji Hassan AA Sule.

Hassan reportedly died on Friday morning after a brief illness.

Muhammed Alkali, Honourable member representing Lafia North Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly who confirmed the Governor’s son’s death, described it as a “shocking” development.

The lawmaker said it is a colossal loss not only to Nasarawa State but the Nation at large.

“I share my deep condolences with His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi A. Sule, over the passing of his beloved son Alh. Hassan.

” I pray that Allah (SWT) grants him Aljanatul Firdaus and comfort his family” Alkali said.
