Katsina Police Apprehend Man for Attempted Murder and Robbery of Cousin
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old Adam Tama for the brutal assault and robbery of his 19-year-old cousin, Fatima Lawal. The incident, which occurred on June 22, has drawn strong condemnation from local authorities.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim in her home using knives and a piece of firewood. The assault resulted in a deep laceration to her ear and various other injuries. In an attempt to silence the victim, the suspect reportedly tied her up and tried to suffocate her with a sponge. Believing he had killed her, he moved her body to the bathroom and fled the scene with her mobile phones, a power bank, and cash.
Following a prompt report to the Sabon Gari Police Division, detectives launched an investigation and successfully tracked down the suspect. During his arrest, officers recovered the stolen iPhone 13 Pro Max, along with blood-stained weapons used in the attack. Investigators also discovered a school bag containing items the suspect allegedly purchased with the stolen cash.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where she received medical treatment and has since been discharged. The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime and remains in police custody, awaiting formal charges.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the quick response of the investigating officers and reiterated the command’s dedication to maintaining public safety and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
