Kwara Governor Meets Tinubu Following Deadly Terror Attack
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday evening. The visit follows a devastating attack by suspected jihadist fighters in the state’s Kaiama Local Government Area earlier this week.
The assault, which occurred on Tuesday in Worro and Nuku villages, resulted in the deaths of numerous residents, including the traditional ruler’s family members, a school principal, and students. The Emir of Worro, Saliu Umar, is currently missing. Reports indicate the attack was retaliation after communities refused to comply with the extremists’ demands to adopt their radical ideology.
In response, President Tinubu on Wednesday ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to the area and approved the establishment of a new military command. The President condemned the violence as “cowardly and inhumane,” emphasizing that the victims were targeted for rejecting extremism.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who visited the affected communities on Wednesday alongside security chiefs, described the attack as an act of frustration by terrorist cells facing ongoing counter-insurgency operations. His meeting with President Tinubu is believed to focus on further coordinating federal and state efforts to enhance security, support affected families, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
