Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The Federal Government has deployed more than 700 newly trained firefighters nationwide, marking a significant expansion of the country’s emergency response capacity. The deployment followed the passing-out parade of Regular Course 6 cadet officers on Thursday in Jos, Plateau State, after weeks of intensive training.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated that the move represents a strategic shift from reactive emergency response to proactive national safety. He emphasized that the new personnel will enhance operational reach, improve response times, and strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure and communities across Nigeria.

“This passing-out parade is the largest in the history of the Federal Fire Service. It signals our commitment to extending operational depth and improving service capacity to safeguard the nation,” the Minister said in his address, which was delivered on his behalf by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, Maj.-Gen. Abdulmalik Jubril (retd.).

The Minister also highlighted the need for more specialized firefighters, including experts in emergency medical services and hazardous materials management, to meet international standards. He urged the new officers to wear their uniforms with humility and responsibility, reminding them that leadership is defined by duty.

The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, confirmed that the recruits underwent rigorous training at the NDLEA camp in Jos. He expressed confidence in their readiness for immediate deployment in firefighting and rescue operations, charging them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

In a show of support, the Plateau State Government, represented by Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Fire Service to enhance fire safety and protect lives and property within the state.
