Kwara State to Support Tech Training for Market Women
The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots economic development by supporting digital initiatives aimed at empowering women in the informal sector.
The Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Damilola Adelodun, made the announcement while receiving representatives from the AY Community and the Tumishe Johnson Household Foundation in Ilorin.
Adelodun stated that the “Tech 4 Market Women” initiative aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s agenda to empower women, strengthen small businesses, and promote financial inclusion through technology. She emphasized that training market women in financial literacy and basic internet usage is essential for improving productivity and helping them adapt to the digital economy.
“Technology remains a critical tool for transforming micro and small-scale businesses across the state,” the commissioner said, assuring the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with credible partners to scale such programs.
Speaking for the visiting groups, Solomon Adami thanked the commissioner for the audience and expressed the foundation’s desire for state support to expand the initiative. He disclosed that the program has already trained 220 market women in selected markets within Ilorin metropolis, focusing on practical financial skills, basic internet use, and digital tools for business growth.
Adami added that the next phase will emphasize mentorship and community building, with plans to engage government agencies, market associations, and financial institutions to ensure long-term impact across Kwara State.
