Lagos Woman Remanded for Allegedly Assaulting 15-Year-Old Daughter

A woman accused of assaulting her 15-year-old daughter in the Ipaja area of Lagos has been remanded in custody following swift intervention by state authorities after a viral video of the incident surfaced online.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed on Thursday that the matter was activated immediately after the disturbing footage emerged on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The survivor was rescued by the Child Protection Unit of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and has been placed in a shelter where she is receiving care and support services.

The suspect was arrested by the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and taken to the Ipaja Police Station before being transferred to the Family Support Unit of the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.

The case was charged to court on Thursday, April 30, 2026, and heard at Court 23, Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court, Ogba, Lagos. The defendant has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The agency commended the swift collaboration of residents and mandated reporters, reiterating the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on all forms of child abuse. It added that survivors will be protected while perpetrators are held accountable under the law.

The case followed public outrage over a viral video showing the woman allegedly assaulting her daughter at 32 Tashoro Street, near Ipaja. Bystanders were seen attempting to intervene in the footage. The case is now before the courts as Lagos authorities reinforce child protection enforcement.
