Oyebanji Urges APC Southwest Leaders to Publicise Tinubu’s Achievements

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Southwest to intensify publicity for President Bola Tinubu’s programmes and policies, particularly those that have improved living conditions through economic reforms and infrastructure development.

Governor Oyebanji said actively highlighting the President’s achievements would provide necessary enlightenment at the grassroots and deepen public appreciation for government policies. This, he noted, would further endear President Tinubu to Nigerians.

He spoke on Tuesday while receiving the APC Southwest Zonal Executives led by the Zonal Chairman and National Vice Chairman, Southwest, Dr. Isaac Kekemeke, at his office in Ado-Ekiti.

The Governor stressed that Nigerians take information from party leaders more seriously than from other sources. He therefore urged the party to activate its structures at all levels to serve as information desks, keeping members and the public informed of the administration’s laudable projects.

Recalling his first six months in office before President Tinubu’s inauguration in 2023 as “a very tough period,” Oyebanji said the President’s decision to free resources to sub-national governments helped rescue the economy and enabled states like Ekiti to record significant infrastructure gains.

“The story is the same across states. President Tinubu’s programmes and policies have impacted positively on the people. While opposition elements will try to rubbish the gains of the reforms, leaders must counter them with verifiable facts,” he said.

Citing examples in Ekiti, the Governor disclosed that two of the six federal roads in the state have been fixed, work has commenced on one, and two others have been awarded. He added that Ekiti has also been linked to the Federal Government’s new rail line project.

Oyebanji further stated that his administration has not taken any loan to finance infrastructure in the last three and a half years. He attributed this to prudent use of federal allocations and improved internally generated revenue, made possible by President Tinubu’s policies. On that basis, he called for support for the President’s second-term bid.

“So, if a state as small as Ekiti has this kind of federal government presence, then you can imagine what will happen to other big states. We have every cause to be proud of our party’s achievements, and the only way to get this done is through you, because you are closest to the people at the grassroots,” Oyebanji said.

He urged party leaders to devote two or three minutes at every ward meeting to explain government achievements to members.

“Our party is on a rescue mission through the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda. We are all ambassadors of the President in our respective zones and states. I appeal to our leaders to make explaining the administration’s achievements paramount. Because you are credible leaders, people will listen to you more than those in government,” he added.

Earlier, Dr. Kekemeke commended Governor Oyebanji for the successful flag-off of his re-election campaign, describing him as an emerging party and national leader due to his humility, astute leadership, and role as a unifying force.

He said the visit was for the zonal executives’ first meeting since their inauguration last month. Dr. Kekemeke reiterated the zonal leadership’s unalloyed support for all APC governors in the Southwest and pledged to strengthen the party’s structure in the region.
