Man Arraigned in Ekiti for Allegedly Receiving Stolen Phones
The police have brought charges against a 40-year-old man, Awopegba Ademola, who appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly receiving stolen mobile phones.
Awopegba, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a single count of receiving stolen property. He entered a plea of not guilty during the court proceeding.
Presenting the facts of the case, the Prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the incident occurred on January 15 in Ado-Ekiti. Oriyomi alleged that the defendant unlawfully received 13 stolen mobile phones from an individual identified as Ahmed Tijani.
The prosecution stated that Ademola was aware the phones were stolen at the time he received them. This action, according to the prosecutor, contravenes the provisions of Section 343(2)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
ASP Oriyomi requested an adjournment to allow time to review the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the amount of N50,000, requiring one surety in the same sum. The case has been adjourned until March 24 for a hearing.
