NDC Throws Open Enugu State Governorship Ticket

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has declared that its governorship ticket for the 2027 election will not be zoned to any particular part of the state, opening the race to all qualified aspirants.

The decision was announced by the party’s state leadership led by Dr. Johnpaul Anih after a meeting of its State Working Committee.

Speaking to journalists, the NDC Publicity Secretary in the state, Emmanuel Ugwueze, said the party is prioritising competence and electability over zoning arrangements.

According to him, the move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party’s chances of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

He stressed that the NDC would not “sacrifice capacity on the altar of zoning,” adding that its primary objective is to secure victory in the 2027 governorship poll.

Ugwueze noted that the party is focused on capturing the Lion Building, the seat of power in Enugu State, and is prepared to deploy every available political strategy to achieve that goal.

However, he disclosed that the party has adopted a zoning formula for senatorial positions across the state in line with principles of fairness, equity, and balanced representation.

As part of the arrangement, the Enugu East Senatorial District slot has been zoned to Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, specifically Enugu North Local Government Area, which he said has yet to produce a senator in recent times.
