New Roads Inaugurated in Ikot Ekpene As Eno Unveils Anniversary Projects

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State on Thursday inaugurated 6.475km of roads in Amayam, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, as part of activities marking the state’s 39th anniversary.

The commissioning, the third in a series of 39 projects lined up for the anniversary, drew large crowds who turned out to witness what community leaders described as the end of decades of infrastructural neglect.

Speaking at the event, Governor Eno said the project underscores his administration’s commitment to continuity and inclusive rural development. He noted that the contract cost was reviewed upward by over 50 percent due to prevailing economic realities, but the government remained determined to deliver.

“Development must be without unnecessary sentiments,” the Governor said. “This road is strategic to trade and commerce and will open up Amayam and adjoining communities for economic growth.”

He listed other projects executed in Ikot Ekpene by his administration and promised more interventions, urging residents to continue supporting the ARISE Agenda.

Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, described the project as a “complete infrastructural ecosystem” made possible by the Governor’s commitment to equitable development across the state.

Ikot Ekpene Council Chairman, Elder Aniefiok Nkom, said the intervention has helped to check rural-urban migration in the area. Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien praised the Governor for “visiting Ikot Ekpene with development” after years of neglect, and pledged the people’s support in 2027.

The Paramount Ruler of Ikot Ekpene, Okuku Okon Ukut, also thanked the administration for prioritizing rural communities.

Residents said the new roads have ended years of deplorable access and will boost commerce in the area.
