NIS, Chinese Immigration Partner On Migration Mgt, Border Security

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is set to collaborate with its Chinese counterpart to strengthen international cooperation in migration management and address emerging transnational crimes.

The decision on the development was taken at the just-concluded global Sub-Forum on Migration Management Cooperation held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, China, where over 2,000 delegates from 139 countries and international organisations gathered.

As part of activities lined up for the international event, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, also held a bilateral meeting with the National Immigration Administration of China, where both institutions discussed issues of mutual interest and explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration through technical exchanges, information sharing and capacity-building initiatives.

The event also featured country presentations on migration policy initiatives and efforts to strengthen cooperation among member countries in addressing irregular migration and transnational organised crime.

The programme equally featured parallel sessions on Smart Digital Services and Administration for Foreigners and Advancing Document Verification, Technology and Intelligence Sharing for Secure Borders.

The NIS presentation centered on Nigeria’s role in combating document fraud and falsification of records, highlighting the efforts of the Service in strengthening document verification and Border Security.

The Comptroller General reaffirmed the commitment of the service to strengthening international partnerships, intelligence sharing, and technical cooperation in promoting secure borders and effective migration management.
