NIS Dismisses Allegations Over Passport Payment System, Warns Public Against Fraudulent Platforms

The Nigeria Immigration Service has rejected recent online claims regarding its passport application and payment processes, describing the allegations as false and capable of misleading the public.

In a statement issued on Monday, the NIS reaffirmed that its digital passport system remains secure and operates exclusively through its official portal. The agency insisted that the website is the only authorised platform for all passport-related applications and payments, whether for Nigerians at home or abroad.

The statement warned that any alternative platforms should be treated as fraudulent.

Addressing specific claims that a religious organisation or private entity is linked to its payment system, the NIS firmly denied any such arrangement. The service stated that it has never partnered with or authorised any religious body, private firm, or individual to act as an intermediary or receiving account on its behalf.

The agency described as entirely untrue the allegation that a religious organisation’s name appears anywhere within its payment process. It added that an investigation has been launched to trace the source of the misinformation, and that appropriate action would be taken against anyone found responsible.

The NIS urged members of the public to rely only on its official communication channels and to avoid engaging with unauthorised links or intermediaries when applying for passports.
