Ogun Butcher Arrested for Stabbing Colleague to Death

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old butcher, Selim Ayodele, in connection with the stabbing death of his colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu.

According to a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Friday, 26-year-old Wasiu was stabbed following a disagreement at their workplace in Alagbole meat market, Ogun State, last Sunday.

Recounting what happened in a video shared on Babaseyi’s Facebook account, the suspect said, “When I finished our work, I was ready to pack all the dustbin which was on the floor. When I finished packing it, Wasiu, who we call Abati, started to fight me, but I avoided the fight.

“He picked up a knife, but I took it from him. He had been fighting me and even wounded me, and the knife was on the floor, so I picked it up and stabbed him in the neck. Then I went to the police station in the company of the other person with us to report myself. I didn’t think he would die.

“I am not happy. I want to tell people not to do what I did. They shouldn’t kill anyone or have a bad mind towards others. It’s not good.”

The PPRO said Ayodele was arrested following a prompt police response after the incident was reported at Ajuwon Police Station at about 8:00 p.m.

Babaseyi added, “Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased and the suspect had finished their day’s work at a cow meat-selling outlet when a misunderstanding arose over sweeping the floor.

“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed the deceased in the left side of his chest before twisting the weapon.

“The victim was rushed to Life Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were deposited at Life Channel Private Mortuary, Lambe, Ajuwon, for autopsy. The suspect is in police custody as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.”
