Olubadan: Voters, Not My Influence, Will Determine Oyo Leaders in 2027

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has declared that the popularity and track record of candidates, rather than his personal backing, will decide who wins elective positions in Oyo State during the 2027 elections.

Speaking to journalists at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Wednesday, the former governor noted that many governorship aspirants and candidates were invoking his name in their political campaigns. He described all politicians in the state as his children and saw nothing wrong with their association with him.

“Let them use my name to promote themselves if it is meaningful to them. But the populace will decide who rules them at the end of the day, not my name,” Ladoja said.

The traditional ruler stressed that voters would ultimately evaluate aspirants based on their records, popularity, and performance.

On the recent abduction of 39 students and teachers in communities within Oriire Local Government Area, the monarch described the incident as unfortunate but expressed confidence in the efforts of the government and security agencies to secure the victims’ release.

He also condemned all forms of land grabbing in Ibadanland, stating that such activities were unacceptable in the ancient city.
