OPWS Arrests Kidnapper, Rescues Abducted Victim In Nasarawa, Benue

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE, OPWS, have arrested a suspected kidnapper in Nasarawa State and rescued an abducted victim in Benue State as part of sustained intelligence-driven operations in the North-Central region.

In a statement on September 6, 2026, Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, said on September 4, troops of Sector 2 arrested one Adamu Lamu at Agyaragu, Nasarawa State.

The arrest followed the escape of a victim, Mr. Nehemiah Elisha, 31, who sighted one of his abductors at a market and alerted troops deployed in the area. The suspect has been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation.

In a separate operation on September 6 at about 10:07 am, troops of COAS Intervention Battalion XI deployed at Torkula, Benue State, rescued Mr. Vincent Nyado along the Umene–Torkula Road. The victim was found tied and abandoned after suspected terrorists fled on sighting troops.

OPWS said it remains committed to curbing violence in the North-Central and Taraba State, and urged troops to sustain intelligence-led operations.

The command also called on the public to provide credible information to security agencies to help defeat criminal elements.
