Osun Community Honors Four Victims of Past Crisis, Warns of Renewed Tension

The Ido Ayegunle Descendant Union in Osun State has paid tribute to four local residents who lost their lives during a violent community crisis last year, honoring them as foundational figures whose sacrifices will remain a permanent part of the town’s history.

Alongside the memorial tribute, the community association issued an urgent appeal to the Osun State Government and law enforcement agencies to intervene amid signs of escalating local friction.

In a formal statement released on Friday, union chairman Paul Alani described the deceased individuals identified as Engineer Agboola Sunday, Kingsley Nwagbana, Rasak Adegoke, and Olayinka Sodiq as dedicated community members who spent their lives working toward the development and peace of the village, located within the Obokun Local Government Area.

Beyond honoring the victims, the union raised immediate alarms over suspicious activities observed within the village over the past week. According to the statement, unidentified individuals have entered the community to dismantle and remove structural materials, including roofing sheets and iron burglary guards, from residential properties and the community town hall that were structurally compromised during last year’s unrest.

Community leaders expressed deep concern that these actions point to a broader attempt to erase the physical remnants of the village, creating an artificial impression that the settlement is entirely abandoned.

The union stressed that the current situation threatens the collective identity and heritage of the ancestral home, urging state authorities to deploy security forces to protect remaining public and private properties, stabilize the area, and prevent a recurrence of past hostilities.
