Osun Opposition Demands Accountability Over ₦14.9 Billion Security Funds and Amotekun Deployment
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State has challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke to provide a detailed account of how ₦14.9 billion in security votes has been utilized under his administration.
The opposition council has also raised serious concerns regarding the alleged deployment of the state-backed security outfit, the Osun Amotekun Corps, to protect private business interests outside the state’s borders.
Alleged Out-of-State Deployment
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director-General of the campaign council, Oluwole Oke, the opposition claimed to have documented evidence that dozens of Osun Amotekun operatives were stationed as guards at a private energy facility located along the Benin-Ore Road in neighboring Ondo State.
Oke criticized the move, arguing that using state-trained and taxpayer-funded personnel for private security outside Osun is unacceptable, especially while local communities continue to battle security challenges.
The council also linked this cross-border assignment to the tragic death of an Amotekun operative, Abdullahi Adedeji. The officer reportedly sustained severe head injuries in a motorcycle accident in April 2026 while traveling to the Ondo State outpost and later died. The opposition alleged that the officer did not receive adequate medical care or institutional support following the crash.
Questions Over ₦14.9 Billion Security Spending
Beyond personnel deployment, the APC campaign council heavily criticized the administration’s financial management of security resources.
According to financial records cited by the opposition, Governor Adeleke has accessed ₦14.9 billion in security votes. However, the council claims there is little to show for the expenditure on the ground.
“Despite the enormous resources at its disposal, the government has not added any security assets to the operational fleet inherited from the previous administration,” Oke stated, noting that local security agencies have not been provided with new vehicles or logistics equipment.
The council further dismissed counter-arguments suggesting the billions were spent entirely on the operations and stipends of the Amotekun Corps, calling for full transparency and a breakdown of the expenditures.
As of the time of reporting, the Osun State Government had not released an official reaction to the allegations, and subsequent efforts to reach state information officials for comment were unsuccessful.
