Osun Poll: Security Operatives Decry Delay in Election Allowance Payments

Some security operatives deployed for the August 15 governorship election in Osun State have expressed frustration over the delay in the payment of their election duty allowances, nearly two weeks after the exercise.

The affected personnel, drawn from various security agencies involved in election security operations, said they had yet to receive their full entitlements despite successfully carrying out their assignments across the state.

Several operatives who spoke on condition of anonymity described the delay as disheartening, noting that they worked under challenging conditions and expected prompt payment after the poll.

According to the officers, many personnel were deployed days before the election and remained on duty throughout the exercise to maintain law and order. While some reportedly received stipends before deployment, they said the main election allowances had yet to be paid.

The development has sparked concerns among affected personnel, who argued that timely payment of allowances is essential to boost morale and reward officers for their commitment during electoral assignments.

Responding to the complaints, officials attributed the delay to the verification of records submitted by personnel who participated in the operation. They explained that the payment process had already commenced and assured officers that all eligible beneficiaries would receive their allowances once the verification exercise is concluded.

The officials further appealed for patience, maintaining that no personnel involved in the election security operation would be left unpaid.
