Oyebamiji Meets Tinubu After Osun Governorship Election Defeat, Calls for Peace
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, on Friday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following his defeat in the poll.
The visit comes days after the election, which saw the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, secure a second term in office after emerging victorious at the polls.
Speaking after the meeting, Oyebamiji appealed to residents of Osun State to remain peaceful and avoid actions that could threaten the stability of the state. He stressed the importance of maintaining calm, noting that governance should always focus on the welfare of the people.
The APC candidate disclosed that the party was still reviewing the election outcome and would make its position known after completing its assessment of the results.
He also called on political stakeholders and supporters across party lines to shun violence and embrace peace in the aftermath of the election.
Addressing reports of post-election attacks, Oyebamiji alleged that some APC supporters were assaulted in Ikire, his hometown, adding that security agencies had been informed of the incident.
According to the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes. The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while the APC candidate carried 11 councils.
Following the election, President Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his victory and urged him to promote unity and development across the state. Adeleke later visited the President and expressed appreciation for what he described as a free and fair electoral process.
Oyebamiji’s meeting with the President came a day after Adeleke’s visit to the Presidential Villa, underscoring ongoing political engagements in the aftermath of the Osun governorship election.
