PAAU Establishes Nine New Institutes, Centres

The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, has approved the establishment of nine new institutes and centres in the institution.

The approval followed the recommendation of the University Senate at its emergency meeting held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, said the programmes are aimed at expanding the university’s academic, professional, research and community-service mandates.

According to him, the nine institutes and centres will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The newly approved centres are Institute of Strategic Communication and Development, Centre for Continuing Education, Institute of Education, Institute of Vaccine Research and Production, Institute of Digital Innovation and Practice, Institute for Governance and Accountability, Institute of African Studies and Digital Humanities, Institute of Humanitarian and Human Rights Law, and Institute of Plant Conservation, Biotechnology and Natural Products.

The management said the approved proposals contain clearly defined missions, visions, objectives, academic and administrative structures, curricula, staffing requirements and organograms.

It added that the establishment followed a rigorous screening by a committee constituted to review submissions from faculties and academic units in compliance with National Universities Commission guidelines.

The university disclosed that out of 11 proposals submitted to the Senate, nine were approved and recommended to Council, while two were stepped down for further review.

Prof. Usman said the new institutes and centres would strengthen teaching, research and professional development, and serve as regulatory extensions of the university’s academic mission.

He commended the Senate and the committee for their diligence and urged prospective students, researchers and stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunities created by the new institutes.
