PDP Group Urges Ebonyi Voters to Prioritize Governance Over Zoning Ahead of 2027 Election
A support group affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, the Anyi Ga’ Emeya Movement, has called on the electorate to shift their focus away from power rotation sentiments, urging voters to prioritize competent and purposeful leadership in the upcoming February 2027 gubernatorial election.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the group’s spokesperson, Moses Idika, emphasized that the governorship bid of the party’s candidate, Dr. Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, is centered on accelerating state development and improving the standard of living for residents, rather than adhering to traditional zoning arrangements.
The movement’s comments were made in response to recent remarks by the State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, who had spoken in defense of the current administration’s position on power rotation. While the PDP group acknowledged the historical context of the state’s creation, it argued that political discourse should evolve beyond a strict focus on senatorial district “turns.”
“In Ebonyi State today, the people desire good governance, progress, prosperity and a state everyone can be proud of,” the statement noted. “The emergence of Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii as the PDP governorship candidate for 2027 is not based on sentiment… but on the desire to provide direction.”
Challenging the incumbent administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru, the group called for the next election cycle to be contested based on “substance and measurable achievements.” The movement specifically urged government officials to showcase at least 10 tangible accomplishments that would justify a renewal of their mandate in 2027.
The group further asserted that Ebonyi’s political history since 1999 has been characterized by competitive engagement where parties have fielded candidates based on merit rather than geographic origin.
