Pensioners Issue 21-Day Ultimatum Over Unpaid N150,000 Palliative

Federal pensioners have given the government a 21-day deadline to pay an outstanding N150,000 palliative allowance, warning that they may stage a peaceful nationwide protest if the payment is not made by September 10, 2026.

The retirees said the amount represents six months of the N25,000 monthly palliative approved to cushion the impact of economic hardship and fuel subsidy removal. According to them, workers have already received similar support, while pensioners are still awaiting payment.

The group noted that the prolonged delay has worsened the financial challenges faced by many retirees, many of whom depend solely on their pensions for survival.

The pensioners appealed to the relevant authorities to release the funds through the appropriate pension administration channels, stressing that records of eligible beneficiaries are readily available for verification and disbursement.

They argued that the palliative was introduced to help vulnerable citizens cope with rising living costs and should be extended to retirees without further delay.

The group also expressed concern over the length of time the issue has remained unresolved despite previous assurances and repeated demands for payment.

According to the pensioners, failure to settle the outstanding allowance before the expiration of the ultimatum will leave them with no option but to embark on a peaceful protest to draw attention to their grievances.

The latest demand comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to address pension-related obligations and improve the welfare of retired public servants across the country.

With the deadline approaching, attention is now focused on whether the authorities will respond to the retirees’ demands and avert a planned demonstration.
