Peter Obi Mourns Nollywood Actor Alexx Ekubo, Calls Death a Painful Loss
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has described the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo as a painful loss to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
In a statement shared on social media on Friday, Obi said he received the news with deep sadness, noting that the passing of the young and talented actor had left millions of fans and industry colleagues in mourning.
“I received with sadness the heartbreaking news of the passing of young and talented Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, whose death has left the Nigerian entertainment industry and millions of admirers across the country mourning,” Obi wrote.
He extended condolences to the actor’s family, friends, and colleagues on behalf of himself and supporters of young creatives in the country. Obi stressed the importance of valuing the contributions of young artists to nation-building.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate also reflected on the fragility of life, urging compassion and purposeful living.
“At moments like this, we are reminded once again of the fragility of life and the importance of living with kindness, compassion, and a sense of purpose,” he said.
Obi prayed for strength for the bereaved family and for the peaceful repose of Ekubo’s soul.
Alexx Ekubo died at the age of 40 following a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His family confirmed that he passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos. Since his death, tributes have continued to pour in from fellow actors, socialites, and fans across the country.
