Phone battery explosion sparks fire at Ibadan electronics complex

Firefighters in Oyo State have put out a fire that broke out at the Tecno Complex near Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan following an explosion from a mobile phone battery.

According to the state fire services chairman, Moroof Akinwande, the incident occurred around 8:15 pm on Monday. The agency received a distress call from a resident reporting that a shop on the upper floor of the commercial building had been engulfed in flames.

Fire crews quickly arrived at the scene and contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring shops and properties. Preliminary investigations showed that a phone battery exploded, igniting combustible materials nearby.

No casualties were recorded during the incident. The fire service returned to base by about 11 pm.

Akinwande commended police officers from the Mokola division for providing security at the scene. He also advised the public to observe safety precautions when using electrical and electronic devices and to install fire extinguishers in commercial buildings for quick response to emergencies.
