Police arrest lawyer over alleged forgery of footballer’s company documents

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and detained an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Oyokunyi Ulo Asuquo, over alleged involvement in the forgery of Corporate Affairs Commission documents belonging to DE J-S Concept Limited, a company owned by international footballer Olanrewaju Ayobami Kayode.

Asuquo, a partner in a corporate law practice, was picked up on Monday, February 23, 2026, and is currently being held at the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Team facility at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The arrest followed a petition by the Esenler Erokspor Football Club striker to the IGP, alleging criminal conspiracy, falsification of corporate records, and unlawful takeover of his multi-million-naira investment.

In the petition dated February 9, 2026, Kayode alleged that his estranged wife, Ezinne Dora Okoro, conspired with the lawyer and some compromised officials at the CAC to alter the company’s shareholding structure without his consent.

According to the footballer, DE J-S Concept Limited was incorporated in 2019 with a share capital of ₦10 million, in which he held 95 per cent shares while his wife held five per cent.

However, he alleged that in 2024, the suspects forged his signature to increase the share capital to ₦30 million, allocating the bulk of the new shares to his estranged wife to give her a majority stake.

“At no time did I relinquish my controlling shares, authorise any alteration, or consent to any restructuring of the company,” Kayode stated in the petition. “They fraudulently earmarked ₦20.5 million in favour of Ezinne Dora Okoro to illegally convert her minority interest into a majority shareholding.”

The footballer further told the police that the suspects removed him as the company secretary and replaced him with Asuquo, whom he claimed to have never met.

He alleged that with the forged documents, his estranged wife forcefully took over assets, including mansions and luxury cars, notably a 2022 G-Wagon and a 2021 GLE model, valued at approximately ₦800 million. Some of the properties were allegedly sold through a Lagos-based realtor.

Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday, the distraught footballer lamented that the betrayal followed a domestic crisis that began in 2023.

“She ran away with my three lovely kids, my houses’ original documents, and two of my most expensive cars. She found out I bought most of my houses with my company name and she went further to do a CAC registration of the company name without my consent,” he said.

An insider source disclosed that during interrogation at the Force Headquarters, Asuquo claimed he did not know the footballer and had only been contracted by another barrister to carry out corporate filings for a fee.

Police have since questioned the lawyer, who reportedly promised to produce the estranged wife to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, Kayode has urged the police to restrict access to all company assets to prevent further dissipation and to prosecute anyone found culpable in what he described as a “criminal scheme.”
