Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Murder of Former OGTV Broadcaster and Guard
The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with the brutal murder of a former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta on Thursday. The suspects, identified as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22; Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27; and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, are currently in custody following a swift intelligence-led investigation.
The victims were discovered dead at the broadcaster’s residence in Owode-Egba on June 21, with signs indicating a violent break-in. During the initial scene processing, investigators noted that the residence’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle was missing. Subsequent tracking operations led police to recover the vehicle in the Onikolobo area of the state.
According to the Commissioner of Police, a handwritten note left at the scene served as a crucial piece of forensic evidence, providing investigators with the leads necessary to identify the perpetrators.
The principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, reportedly confessed to orchestrating the attack. He allegedly disclosed that he recruited the other two suspects to carry out the crime as an act of retaliation, citing grievances held from the time he was previously employed as a security guard for the deceased.
The police revealed that the suspects gained entry to the home on June 20 by first overpowering the guard, Adetayo, and using him to access the main building. They then proceeded to kill both the broadcaster and the guard before fleeing with the vehicle.
In addition to the suspects’ confessions, detectives have recovered several items linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, and a wooden plank.
Commissioner Ojajuni stated that while the suspects have made confessional statements, a comprehensive investigation remains ongoing to ensure all evidence is consolidated for a diligent prosecution. He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to securing justice for the victims and maintaining law and order in the state.
