Police Clear Former Senator Abbo of Rape Allegation
The Nigerian Police have exonerated former Senator Ishaku Abbo of Adamawa North from allegations of raping a minor, stating that a thorough investigation found no credible evidence to support the claim.
The probe was initiated following a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police in September 2025. A police report concluded that essential elements of the alleged offence were lacking, citing a significant time lapse between the claimed incident in June 2025 and its reporting.
The investigation noted a medical report indicating the alleged survivor’s hymen was intact days after the purported incident. Police also reported that individuals present at the senator’s residence at the time denied any rape occurred.
When contacted, Abbo declined extensive comment, stating, “God will expose all evil plans against me and reward the doers according to their deeds.” He had previously dismissed the allegation as a political smear campaign.
Senator Abbo was first elected in 2019 but was later removed by the Court of Appeal in 2023.
