Police Foil Hostel Robbery in Ogun, Arrest Two Suspects

The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro Local Government Area, arresting two suspects and recovering 11 smartphones, a laptop and other stolen items.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 16, by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B Babasiyi, adding that the incident occurred at about 2:40am on September 13, 2026, after the police received an anonymous distress call that an armed gang was robbing students in their hostel.

According to the statement, operatives of the Ewekoro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, were promptly dispatched to the scene following the distress call.

The police said the suspects abandoned their loot in a school bag and attempted to escape after sighting the approaching operatives.

However, the officers gave chase and successfully arrested two of the suspects identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun.

A search of the abandoned school bag led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, one HP laptop and various items of clothing, with victims of the robbery subsequently identifying the recovered properties as theirs.

Preliminary investigations, the police said, also revealed that the gang allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer ₦200,000 to an account during the operation.

“Detectives have visited the crime scene, documented the forced entry, and secured the recovered exhibits,” the statement said.

It added that search warrants executed at the residences of the two suspects did not yield any further incriminating items.

The suspects and recovered exhibits are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The police said efforts were also ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who fled the scene and identify the owner of the account that received the alleged ₦200,000 transfer.

The Command said the operation demonstrated its commitment to rapid response, student safety and community-centred policing across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ewekoro operatives for their vigilance and timely response.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to public safety, Ojajuni assured students and residents of the police’s resolve to protect communities across Ogun State from criminal elements.

The Command also urged operators of off-campus student hostels and landlords to keep emergency contact numbers readily available and report security threats or suspicious activities without delay.
