Police Investigate Death of FUTA Student Found Dead in Bush

The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 100-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, who was found lifeless in a bush near his off-campus hostel.

The deceased, identified as Favour Olaniyi, was a student of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics. His body was discovered on Saturday in a bush along FUTA North Gate in Akure, the state capital.

Police authorities stated that no visible marks of violence were observed on the body. However, a bottle suspected to contain a poisonous substance was recovered at the scene, raising the possibility of suicide.

The corpse has been deposited at a morgue for preservation and further examination as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the university management described the incident as sad and unfortunate. Officials confirmed that the student’s parents had been informed. The university also noted that counselling support was being provided to fellow students who may have been affected by the tragedy.
