Police Investigate Lagos Fake Job Interview Robbery as Victim Cries Out in Viral Video

The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into an alleged robbery incident in the Magodo area of Lagos, where several unsuspecting job seekers were reportedly lured under the pretence of attending a legitimate interview, only to be ambushed and robbed of their valuables.

The police confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, following the circulation of a viral video in which victims recounted their ordeal.

According to the statement, the case was reported at about 11:00 p.m. on April 9, 2026. One suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing accomplices.

“The Command confirms that the incident captured in the viral video is under investigation,” the police said, adding that all those involved would be brought to justice.

In the widely shared video, visibly shaken victims described how they arrived at the location with hopes of securing employment, only to be attacked and dispossessed of their phones, money, and other belongings.

One affected individual pleaded: “Nigerians, let’s be careful out there. Not all job offers are legit. We went for a job interview in Magodo, Lagos only to be robbed. They took our phones, money, and everything we had on us.”

The emotional appeal has since generated widespread concern on social media, with many Nigerians expressing outrage and calling for swift justice.

The police used the opportunity to caution the public against fraudulent online job offers, urging job seekers to verify the authenticity of such opportunities through credible and official channels before attending any interview.

“Members of the public are advised to be cautious of fraudulent online job offers and to always verify the authenticity of such offers,” the statement read.

Authorities assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all perpetrators would be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted. Residents were also advised to report suspicious activities to the police.

The incident has reignited conversations about rising employment-related scams and the need for stronger safeguards to protect vulnerable job seekers across the country.
