Police Link Ikire Killings to Armed Hoodlums, Oyetola Calls for Swift Action

The Osun State Police Command has attributed the killing of two residents in Ikire to armed hoodlums who allegedly attacked a police patrol team and seized an AK-47 rifle from an officer during the incident.

According to the police, the attack occurred while officers were responding to a distress call in the area. During the confrontation, two police officers sustained serious injuries, while the assailants reportedly made away with a patrol vehicle and a service rifle.

Authorities said the stolen patrol vehicle was later recovered with multiple bullet marks and a damaged windscreen. Security operatives also recovered spent ammunition from the scene as part of ongoing investigations.

The police disclosed that the attackers allegedly used the stolen rifle to fire indiscriminately, resulting in the deaths of two civilians. The victims have since been identified, while their remains have been deposited in a mortuary. The injured officers are receiving medical treatment.

Following the incident, the Osun State Commissioner of Police visited the scene and ordered a full-scale investigation. Tactical and intelligence units have also been deployed to track down those responsible and strengthen security in the area.

The command condemned the attack and appealed to residents to provide useful information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, condemned the violence and loss of lives, describing the situation as a threat to peace and public safety in the state.

He urged security agencies to take decisive measures to restore order, protect residents, and ensure that those involved in the killings are brought to justice. Oyetola also called on political stakeholders and residents to embrace peaceful dialogue and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over security in parts of Osun State, with authorities pledging to intensify efforts to prevent further violence and maintain public order.
