Police on Alert to Avert Clash at PDP Secretariat Amid Reopening Plans

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command is preparing to deploy personnel to the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Monday to prevent a possible clash between rival factions within the party.

This follows an announcement by the Samuel Anyanwu-led caretaker committee backed by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike that the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters, sealed since November 2025, would be reopened for activities.

Senior police officers confirmed to Harmattan News that although the command has not been formally notified of the reopening, officers will be deployed to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The secretariat was originally sealed after a violent clash between the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee last year.

Reacting to the planned reopening, the National Publicity Secretary of the Turaki-led NWC, Ini Ememobong, dismissed the caretaker committee’s authority, stating that its members remain expelled from the party.

“They are living in fool’s paradise. The worst form of deceit is self-deceit,” Ememobong said, adding that the party has informed the police that the secretariat remains subject to ongoing court cases.

He warned that reopening the building for the caretaker committee would amount to contempt of court and an act of self-help.

Police sources, however, indicated that personnel will be positioned at the secretariat and other strategic points to ensure public safety.

A senior officer, who spoke anonymously, stated, “The command would not stand by and allow a breakdown of peace and order by the party or anyone else. Definitely, the police will have to be on the ground.”

When contacted, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said she was not yet briefed on the situation and declined to comment further.
