Resurfaced 2023 Video Shows Kenneth Okonkwo Harshly Criticizing Atiku Before Appointment as Spokesperson
A resurfaced 2023 television interview featuring actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has sparked widespread public reaction following his recent appointment as official spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In the viral interview snippet from Channels Television, Okonkwo who was then serving as a spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign harshly criticized Atiku regarding financial controversies, special purpose vehicles, and allegations linked to consultancy payments, remarking that the former vice president belonged in prison rather than seeking the presidency.
The video resurfaced shortly after Okonkwo announced his new role as spokesperson for Atiku under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the public discourse on his social media page, Okonkwo expressed gratitude for the appointment and praised Atiku’s willingness to engage in constructive dialogue rather than harbor resentment over past political disagreements. He indicated that recent consultations with the former vice president and party leadership addressed key concerns regarding regional representation for the South-East.
The appointment follows previous public friction after Okonkwo voiced opposition to the ADC’s decision to name former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate. However, the contrast between Okonkwo’s past campaign rhetoric and his new official role continues to draw significant commentary online.
