Shettima Reassures Nigerians on Security, Says President ‘Leaving No Stone Unturned’

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, describing the protection of lives and property as the primary essence of government.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the launch of a book titled ‘My Life and Journalists Hangout’ by veteran broadcaster Babajide Kolade-Otitoju (BKO), Shettima responded to calls from the author urging the government to take decisive action against rising insecurity.

“The president is very much concerned, and the president is leaving no stone unturned to see that the issue of security of lives and property is frontally addressed,” Shettima said.

The Vice President also commended the media’s role in democratic governance, describing BKO’s work as a model of integrity and courage. “A democracy depends on a strong media culture. The media is not a theatre of noise. It is a republic of conscience,” he added.

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who chaired the event, congratulated BKO on his milestone and praised his commitment to truthful reporting. “It is indeed a moment of reflection, thanksgiving and deserving celebration,” Abdulrazaq said.

In his remarks, BKO, who turned 60 this year, called on the government to find urgent solutions that would allow Nigerians to live safely. “I want to see a Nigeria that is secure without the fear of bandits,” he said. “The insecurity is demarketing the government of today.”

The event was attended by several state governors, including Ahmed Ododo (Kogi), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Babagana Zulum (Borno), among other top government officials.
