Step-by-Step Guide: How to Register and Update Your PVC on INEC’s Online Self-Service Portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has introduced an online self-service portal to streamline the voter registration process. This platform allows eligible Nigerians to register for a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), transfer voting locations, correct personal details, and request replacements for lost or damaged cards.

The rollout coincides with a two-week extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, pushing the deadline to July 24, 2026. Notably, first-time voters can now complete their entire registration including biometric capture directly from their smartphones without needing to visit an physical INEC office.

How to Register Online

Eligible citizens can complete their registration on the INEC Self-Service CVR Portal by following these steps:

1. Access the Portal

Visit the official self-service page at [https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/online](https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/online) and select the “Register Online” option.

2. Create an Account

New users must set up a portal account by providing:

* First and last name

* Mobile phone number

* Active email address

* A secure password

* Completing the security captcha

3. Verify Your NIN

Applicants must input and verify their **National Identification Number (NIN)** before they can proceed to the main registration form.

4. Fill in Your Biodata

Provide your personal information accurately, including:

* Full name, date of birth, and gender

* Occupation and educational qualifications

* Residential address, State, and LGA of residence

* State and LGA of origin

* Disability status (where applicable)

5. Select Your Polling Unit

Choose your preferred voting location by selecting the corresponding State, Local Government Area, Registration Area (Ward), and specific Polling Unit.

6. Upload Documents

If required, upload any supporting identification or documents to accompany your application.

7. Complete Biometric Capture

To complete the registration online, you must capture your fingerprints and a passport photograph. The portal will generate a QR code and a link to redirect you to the INEC mobile application on your smartphone to complete this step.

8. Submit the Application

Review all entered details for accuracy and submit the application through the portal.

Beyond fresh registrations, the self-service platform allows registered voters to:

Request Transfers: Move registration to a new polling unit.

Information Updates: Correct typos or update personal details.

Card Replacement: Apply for a new PVC if the original is lost, damaged, or stolen.

Track PVCs: Locate the collection point for your printed card.

Alternative Option: Online Pre-Registration

For applicants who do not have a smartphone for biometric capture or do not yet possess a NIN, a hybrid Pre-Registration option is available:

1. Fill out the form online with your basic details.

2. Book an appointment at a physical registration center.

3.Print your application slip and visit the selected INEC office to complete fingerprint and photo capture.

4. Track your application onlineand collect your PVC once notified.

This pre-registration option significantly minimizes wait times at physical offices, allowing INEC to manage crowds and process applications more efficiently.
