Storm Collapses 3 TCN Towers, Disrupts Power To Niamey

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared force majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three transmission towers in Kebbi State.

TCN said the line tripped at 5:38pm on 26 August 2026, while a trial reclosure carried out at 6:03pm failed as the line tripped again immediately.

A fault-finding patrol by TCN linesmen subsequently discovered that towers T109, T110 and T111 had collapsed at Chibike Village.

The company attributed the incident to heavy rainfall and windstorm in the area.

The collapse has disrupted bulk power transmission to Niamey through the line.

TCN said it had mobilised personnel and resources to the affected location and was working to rehabilitate the damaged towers and restore the line as quickly as possible.

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused to electricity customers in Niamey and assured them that efforts were underway to restore normal supply promptly.
