Terrorists Attack Borno Community, Abduct Students and Kill Teacher During Exam

A peaceful market day in Lassa, located in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, turned into a scene of terror on Monday as suspected insurgents launched a violent raid on the community.

According to local reports, a large group of gunmen dressed in military camouflage and riding motorcycles stormed the town while students were in the middle of their National Examinations Council (NECO) assessments. The attackers reportedly moved through the area unchallenged, firing weapons and creating widespread panic among residents and students.

During the assault, the gunmen abducted an unspecified number of students and teachers, forcing them to accompany the insurgents to an undisclosed location. At least one teacher was confirmed killed during the incident.

Witnesses alleged that the community was left vulnerable during the attack, noting that military personnel stationed nearby had reportedly departed for a patrol in the town of Uba, approximately 16 kilometers away, shortly before the raid began.

Local authorities have acknowledged the incident, with police representatives stating that investigations are currently underway to gather evidence and confirm the full extent of the casualties. Residents remain on high alert as search efforts continue for those who went missing during the chaos.

This violent incursion highlights the persistent security challenges facing communities in southern Borno, where residents continue to call for improved protection against ongoing insurgent activity.
