Three Suspects Apprehended Following the Fatal Assault of a Kogi School Teacher

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with the tragic death of Mariam Usman, a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area.

The arrests follow a thorough homicide investigation into a series of retaliatory assaults on the victim, which were reportedly triggered by a disciplinary action she took against a student.

According to police findings, the victim was subjected to multiple attacks over a two-day period before succumbing to her injuries:

June 17, 2026: The victim was first assaulted at her residence by Abdullahi Isiaka, reportedly in retaliation for disciplining his 11-year-old son during school hours. Later that same day, while walking to the mosque for prayers, she was assaulted a second time by another suspect, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.

June 18, 2026: The violence escalated when Ojonojima Mary, the younger sister of Ramatu, tracked the victim to her workplace and assaulted her on the school premises.

June 25, 2026: After receiving initial medical care at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka and later being referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo, Mariam Usman tragically succumbed to the injuries sustained during the attacks.

State Police Spokesperson, ASP Oyiza Afusat, confirmed that detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) swiftly took action upon receiving the report.

The investigation has established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects: Abdullahi Isiaka, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, and Ojonojima Mary. The police have concluded their investigation, and the suspects are slated to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, commended the SCID detectives for their diligence in ensuring justice for the victim. He used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to the public, advising citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to seek lawful avenues for resolving grievances.
