Troops Rescue Abducted Zamfara Council Chairman’s Family as Search Continues

Troops of the joint military task force Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five family members of the abducted Bungudu Local Government Area Chairman, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, following a gun battle with armed terrorists in Zamfara State.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West), Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, heavily armed terrorists invaded the chairman’s residence in the Zango area of Bungudu, overpowering security personnel on site. Arriving troops engaged the fleeing attackers in a firefight, forcing them to abandon five abducted family members including the council boss’s wife, mother, two children, and another relative who were safely rescued.

However, the assailants managed to escape into nearby bushes with the local government chairman. The attack resulted in four fatalities, including two police officers, a local vigilante, and a civilian. The chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, also sustained injuries during the raid.

A joint search-and-rescue operation involving military troops, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes has been launched across suspected terrorist hideouts to secure the safe return of the council chairman and track down the perpetrators.
