United Nigeria Airlines Grapples with Fifth Bird Strike Incident
United Nigeria Airlines has again been hit by operational disruptions after one of its aircraft was grounded following a bird strike the fifth such occurrence for the carrier this year.
The affected aircraft, a CRJ-900, suffered the bird strike while landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Flight UN0579 from Kano. The flight had departed the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport before the incident took place.
In line with safety protocols, the airline immediately withdrew the aircraft from service for comprehensive technical inspections and necessary maintenance. The development is expected to impact flight schedules across the airline’s network.
United Nigeria Airlines appealed to passengers for patience, assuring them that all decisions are made with safety as the top priority. While acknowledging that some flights may not operate as scheduled, the airline apologised for any inconvenience caused.
The carrier maintained that each of the five bird strike incidents recorded this year has been handled in full compliance with aviation safety regulations and established operational procedures.
It further reassured the flying public of its commitment to safe and reliable operations, promising to take all necessary measures to optimise services and exceed passenger expectations.
