VIDEO: Terrorists Attack Kwara Deputy Governor’s Hometown, Kill Two, Injure Security Chief
Terrorists launched an attack on the hometown of Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, killing two people and injuring the local security chief in the Oro-Ago community of Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The assault occurred on Wednesday evening, with residents describing it as a full-scale invasion. According to eyewitnesses, heavily armed assailants stormed the community in large numbers, firing sporadically and attempting to overrun a nearby police station before moving through residential areas.
The attackers reportedly went from house to house, breaking doors and instilling fear across the community. The local security chief, known as Olu-Òde, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm while trying to defend the area.
Residents said the attack has triggered a wave of displacement, with several neighboring communities now deserted. Areas reportedly affected include Ahun, Oke-Oyan, Ago-Olomo, Ajegunle, Omugo, and Oke-Daba.
One distressed resident described the situation as a full-blown crisis, calling on authorities to deploy soldiers to the area. Another resident appealed directly to Deputy Governor Alabi, expressing frustration over what they perceived as inaction despite the escalating security situation in his hometown.
The attack followed an earlier security alert warning of planned terrorist operations in the Kwara South Senatorial District. An advisory issued last Saturday indicated that suspected terrorists were planning coordinated attacks on Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin local government areas, with dates set for March 23 and March 28.
The statement, issued by Elder Oyin-Zubair, urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. It noted that the Kwara State Police Command, local government chairmen, and other security agencies had been notified and were taking necessary precautions.
As of Thursday morning, authorities in Kwara State had not issued an official statement regarding the attack. Efforts to reach security agencies for comments were unsuccessful.
