Violence: Interrogate PDP Senatorial Candidate, Kogi Government Urges SecurityAgencies

The Kogi State Government has urged heads of security agencies in Nigeria to invite a Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, for questioning over alleged terrorism-related activities capable of dragging the state back to “the dark era.”

The state government complained that  despite heavy security interventions by the present administration to rid the state of terrorism, it was worried that politicians had deliberately continued to groom terrorists in the state as well as import them from neighbouring states.

In a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, in Lokoja Monday morning, the state government alleged that Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan had exhibited enough actions to be invited over terrorism-related activities, especially with the manner by which the PDP and organisations linked to Akpoti-Uduaghan had been advocating for the release of an arrested terrorist called Safiu.

“It is worrisome for the PDP that Natasha represents to come out openly to identify with Safiu, a terror suspect that is linked to the bloody attack on a church in Owo that led to the death of scores of worshippers. He is also linked to the dastardly attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre as well as military formations within and outside of Kogi State.

“It was a thing of relief to the people of Kogi Central that security agencies were able to apprehend their Chief Tormentor. Criminality doesn’t know political party. A criminal is a criminal and should be treated as such,” Fanwo said.

He noted, “Prior to 2016, the Kogi Central Senatorial District was a terrorist den, with dangerous terrorist organisations having cells in the district and hundreds were maimed, many in broad daylight. The government will not allow a continuation of the old order.

“The fact that they (PDP) claimed Safiu was their party member is an admission of strong links to him and his nefarious and deadly activities. As an administration, we are witnessing a surge in crime in Kogi Central

“The Kogi State Government will not allow a marriage between terrorism and politics. Nigeria is doing everything possible now to win the battle against terrorism.

“Kogi State under Governor Yahaya Bello has won many awards in the area of security, the most recent being the one presented by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, in recognition of how the administration has turned one of the most dangerous states in Nigeria to one of the safest states today.

“We call on security agencies to arrest defenders of terrorists and ask them their levels of involvement. No matter how smart they think they are, they cannot beat our robust security architecture.”

The Kogi Government assured the people of the state of its continued commitment to securing their lives and property.

G5: Rivers PDP Alleges Plot To Blackmail Wike

The  commissioner for information and communications in Rivers, Chris Finebone has revealed that  the state has uncovered a plot to blackmail Nyesom Wike, governor of the state.

A statement issued by Kelvin Ebiri, special assistant to Wike on media, revealed that  Finebone spoke at a media briefing on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers.

Fineboy explained that the “faceless group” is orchestrating a campaign of calumny against Wike because they are vexed over his role in leading the G5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for “fairness, equity and justice” in the party.

“This is the evidence of the plot to blackmail governor Wike. This is the document and it is titled: ‘Proposal with hashtag, to end Wike rascality programme’,” he said.

The commissioner said the plan to blackmail Wike is “totally unexpected” by the Rivers government.

“We encouraged them to remove their mask and show themselves as the governor and the government is equal to the task of responding to them adequately,” he said.

“They can’t even sign it (the document) to push for this. It is important we warn them. It is important we also warn Nigerians about this scheme. We expect more of them to come. But I can assure you that the governor and the G-5 would rise to the occasion as they continue to start this type of campaign of calumny.”

Court Voids PDP Guber Primary In Ebonyi, Orders Fresh Poll

A few months to the general elections, a federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ebonyi State.

The PDP, in its first primary election conducted in May 28th and 29th 2022, elected Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as its gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi State.

The party also held another primary election on the 4th and 5th of June 2022, which produced Obinna Ogba as its factional governorship candidate.

It was gathered that the 1st primary election of the PDP which produced Odii as a guber candidate was conducted under the headship of Silas Onu while the 2nd Primary election of the party that produced Ogba, was conducted under the headship of Tochukwu Okorie.

Both Odii and Ogba reportedly fought gallantly in court for the PDP guber ticket in Ebonyi, wherein the Supreme Court later ruled in favour of Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.

But now, Justice Binta Nyako has allegedly nullified all the primary elections of the PDP conducted under Silas Onu.

Justice, Nyako, however, gave fourteen days (14 days) for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to conduct a fresh primary election.

When contacted, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Tochukwu Okorie confirmed the nullification of the Party’s primaries.

He said the party will soon make its position known as regards the federal High court ruling.
