Yoruba Union Calls for Release of Tinubu’s Alleged FBI, DEA Records

Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá (Yoruba Union) has urged President Bola Tinubu to allow the release of records allegedly held by United States law enforcement agencies concerning past investigations linked to him.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the group said Nigerians have a right to know the background and history of individuals seeking or occupying the nation’s highest political office, stressing that transparency is essential in a democratic society.

The organisation expressed concern over what it described as efforts to prevent the disclosure of the records, arguing that such actions could fuel public speculation and raise questions about accountability.

According to the group, citizens should have access to relevant information about political leaders to enable them make informed decisions, particularly ahead of future elections.

The Yoruba Union also maintained that public office holders should be subject to scrutiny and that openness regarding past allegations would help strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions.

It further argued that allowing the release of the records would provide an opportunity for Nigerians to independently assess the facts and draw their own conclusions.

The group called for greater transparency in the political process, insisting that access to information about public officials is vital to promoting accountability and trust in governance.
