Zamfara Gov Orders Appointees Seeking Elective positions to Resign Ahead of 2027

Governor Dauda Lawal has directed all political appointees and council members in Zamfara State intending to contest the 2027 general elections to resign their positions.

The directive was issued during the 64th State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau on Monday, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

The government said the decision aligns with provisions of the Electoral Act and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 elections.

“In his opening remarks, the governor directed that all council members vying for political offices should resign on or before March 31, 2026,” the statement said.

Lawal also instructed the Secretary to the State Government to issue a circular mandating all political appointees seeking elective offices to step down before the deadline.

Similarly, the Head of Service has been directed to notify civil servants with political ambitions to resign in compliance with the law.

The move is seen as a **decisive step** to ensure adherence to electoral regulations and maintain transparency within the state’s public service ahead of the 2027 polls.
