Zulum Urges Unity, Peace as Borno Marks Islamic New Year
Residents of have been urged to embrace peace, tolerance and mutual respect as the state prepares to usher in the Islamic New Year, 1448 AH.
The call came from Governor , who approved Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate the beginning of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, the governor encouraged residents to use the occasion for sober reflection on values that foster peaceful coexistence, unity and service to humanity.
He stressed the need for citizens to uphold justice, solidarity and understanding in their interactions, noting that lasting development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.
According to the statement, the state government remains committed to sustaining peace and advancing development across Borno, while calling on residents to contribute positively to efforts aimed at strengthening unity among the people.
The Islamic New Year marks the beginning of a new Hijri calendar year and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of reflection, prayer and renewed commitment to faith and community values.
