APC Aspirant Declares Opposition ‘Dead’ in Kwara, Hails Governor’s Leadership
A candidate seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency, Abdulrasheed Akogun, has declared that the opposition in Kwara State no longer poses a threat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Monday after taking part in the APC screening exercise for House of Assembly aspirants in Ilorin, Akogun said the high number of candidates jostling for the party’s tickets is a direct reflection of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s popularity and effective leadership.
He described the screening process as seamless, transparent, and credible, noting that the exercise was conducted fairly.
Akogun pointed out that no fewer than 158 aspirants are currently vying for the party’s tickets across the 24 state constituencies in Kwara. He argued that such a strong turnout demonstrates the confidence politicians and stakeholders have in the ruling party, which he credited to the governor’s performance and governance style.
According to him, securing the APC ticket has become the main goal for any serious contender, as the opposition has lost all relevance in the state. He claimed that any aspirant who wins the party’s primary is already 80 percent on the path to victory in the general election.
Regarding his own ambition to represent the Share/Oke-Ode constituency, Akogun highlighted his years of political engagement and grassroots mobilisation. He noted his previous role as Director of Media and Publicity for the Governor’s 2019 campaign organisation, adding that his sustained connection with local communities gives him a strong advantage.
He expressed optimism that party leaders and stakeholders will endorse his candidacy, paving the way for a smooth run in the general election.
The APC continues its preparations for the 2027 polls, with party insiders expressing confidence in maintaining control of key states such as Kwara.
