Rivers at 59: Fubara Vows to Prioritise Peace, Unity, Development
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has recommitted his administration to peace, unity, security and inclusive growth as the state celebrates its 59th anniversary.
In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday, the governor said the resilience and strong spirit of togetherness among the people had sustained the state since its creation on May 27, 1967.
Fubara described the bond shared by the Ijaw, Ikwerre, Ogoni, Etche, Ekpeye, Andoni, Kalabari and other ethnic groups as one of Rivers State’s greatest assets and a foundation for stability and progress.
He noted that beyond its oil and gas wealth, the state has long driven Nigeria’s economy through the outstanding contributions of its people in academia, law, business, entertainment, public service and sports.
The governor assured residents that his government would continue to champion policies that safeguard lives and property while spreading development to every local government area. He stressed that governance must remain people-focused and impactful.
Fubara paid tribute to elders and founding leaders for preserving unity and peaceful coexistence, while urging youths to stay hopeful, responsible and committed to building a greater state through innovation, hard work and patriotism. He also acknowledged women as indispensable partners in strengthening families and communities.
He called on all Rivers people to use the anniversary to reflect and renew their dedication to peaceful coexistence, dialogue and collective progress, stressing that the state’s unity must always rise above personal interests and political differences.
