Akpabio Anticipates Opposition Claims of Rigging in 2027 Election

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has predicted that opposition parties will likely challenge the results of the 2027 presidential election by alleging electoral fraud should President Bola Tinubu secure a second term.

Speaking during a meeting with the “City Boy Movement,” a pro-Tinubu political support group, at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Akpabio encouraged the organization to ignore anticipated criticism. He advised the group to remain focused on grassroots mobilization and to ensure that the President is well-represented by polling agents in every unit across the country to secure a decisive victory.

The Senate President emphasized the importance of the movement’s role in the upcoming election cycle, suggesting that their presence would help recover votes that he claimed were lost in the 2023 elections.

“When the victory of President Bola Tinubu is announced, you will hear people saying it is rigged,” Akpabio told the group. “Ignore all those things and remain focused.”

In addition to political strategy, Akpabio urged the youth members of the movement to shun social vices such as cultism and drug abuse. He framed their involvement in political support as a “privileged opportunity” to contribute to the nation’s future and the continuation of the current administration.

The Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, noted that the visit was intended to foster stronger collaboration between the group and the National Assembly as they prepare for a nationwide mobilization campaign.

The movement aims to increase civic engagement among young Nigerians and solidify support for the President’s policy agenda as the 2027 election season approaches.
